The Reader’s Corner Bookstore Is Now Closed

After much thought and countless hours spent pouring over spreadsheets and financial statements, I’m announcing that the Reader’s Corner, like many other retailers these days, has had no choice but to close its doors for good.

For the first ten years, the business I conceived of and opened in 2004, flourished as it supplied hundreds of thousands of books a year to area readers as well as to readers across the country and around the world through the online segment of the business. I’ve been awed and humbled by the incredible positive response to the idea I had of owning a small, unique, customer centered bookshop and the business exceeded my expectations for over a decade. More importantly though, I’ve been blessed with the many friends I’ve made since opening the store; friends that will remain friends when the bookstore is long forgotten.

Over the last three years however, and overwhelmingly in 2016, the vast majority of area readers have made the choice to buy their books from and this rapidly increasing loss of sales to Amazon has made it impossible for us to keep up with the costs associated with running the business.

The Reader’s Corner has surpassed every goal I set for the business when I opened thirteen years ago and I would like to thank those of you who have patronized us for those thirteen years and have continued to support us in spite of the ease and convenience of buying on Amazon. You’ve understood the value of supporting an independent business and also what it gives back to a small town, and your loyalty, generosity, and appreciation will not be forgotten.
